The Tanto is perhaps my favorite sword. It comes in so many styles and lengths. The typical Tanto is about a 10" to 11" blade with just one panel and fairly straight. It is mounted with full tsuba and silk wrapped handle. However, everything departs from there. There are small Kweiken that are only 4" in length and hide in the Obi or sleeve. I make a Ken dagger which is double-edged similar to a Yari spear point. Blades are available curved or straight and with or without a shino-ji panel. I also make all styles of tanto in Shira saya and Hamadashi style...small guard. I frequently make O'Tanto which are oversized and closer to a Wakazashi. I do not make Tanto with chisel point!
